About

I am a vocal psychotherapist, postgraduate researcher and trainer and have been a registered Music Therapist in the UK since 2000. I am based in Brighton and Hove on the south coast of the UK, 1 hour from London.

Since my mid-twenties I have been fascinated by the link between the voice and the self. I learned that as I developed greater strength and flexibility in my voice, I became stronger and more flexible as a person. This interest led me to train and practice as a music therapist, and since 2018 I have focussed on vocal psychotherapy, a specialist method of music therapy.

Vocal Psychotherapy is the first voice-based model of music therapy developed by Dr Diane Austin in New York City. It ‘integrates the breath, natural sounds, vocal improvisation, songs and dialogue within a client therapist relationship to facilitate interpersonal change and growth. It combines the ideas of depth psychology with vocal music therapy’.

In 2016 I began working closely with Dr Austin to develop the first training programme in Europe, the Austin Vocal Psychotherapy International Training Programme.
